Last night, Chicago dropped the opener against the lefty, Alex Wood, being no-hit for a majority of the game. Let’s see if they have more luck against the righty, Alex Cobb, in game 2.
Chicago Cubs Lineup:
- Rafael Ortega, CF
- Willson Contreras, C
- Seiya Suzuki, RF
- Ian Happ, LF
- Nico Hoerner, SS
- Patrick Wisdom, 3B
- Frank Schwindel, DH
- Alfonso Rivas, 1B
- Chris Morel, 2B
SP: Marcus Stroman, RHP
I’ll be honest, I did not think we were going to see Willson Contreras behind the plate in a Cubs uniform again. And frankly, I don’t know why we are. The chances of him getting hurt may only be slightly higher on a game-to-game basis, but I don’t really know why you’d risk even that with the DH available and THREE catchers on the roster. Did we really need to get Frank Schwindel in there instead of P.J. Higgins or Yan Gomes?
Is this really a version of calling the Mets bluff?
Actually, now that I’m thinking about it, this is probably a pretty bad decision with way more risk than upside. Hopefully, it doesn’t come back to bite the Cubs in the ass.
As usual, we’ll have your full Pre-Gamin’ post closer to game time (9:15 CT).
