2022 #BNBlogathon Check-In: Hour 17

Chicago Cubs

I am currently blogging – here, on Facebook, and on Twitter (hash tag #BNBlogathon for those who want to jump into the fray themselves) – for 41 hours straight, past MLB’s August 2 Trade Deadline and through the Cubs/Cardinals game Tuesday night, thanks to your generous donations to Make-A-Wish. I’ll be doing recaps on the process throughout the day, but you’ll also see normal posting (Bullets, news, Pre-Gamin’, EBS, etc.), as well as a significant uptick in rumor/trade posts.

News and Rumors Since the Last Check-In:

The Red Sox did some buying and selling, the Brewers added a reliever from the Rangers, the Braves and Astros swapped arms, the Cardinals acquired Jose Quintana, and the Juan Soto talks keep on heating up.

Most Interesting Tidbit Since the Last Recap:

I’m a little annoyed that the Pirates are helping out the Cardinals, but that’s just me being petty. The deal isn’t really going to deplete the Cardinals’ farm system, but even to the extent they gave up useful pieces, they’re helping the Pirates keep building out their talented young core. I just don’t like it all around, especially knowing that the former Cub magic and the Cardinals voodoo magic are going to combine to turn Jose Quintana into Cy Damn Young down the stretch.

Current Thoughts About the Chicago Cubs’ Trade Deadline Strategy/Execution:

I suspect the Cubs made considerable headway on trades today, getting various paths and ducks lined up – it’s a bit like the draft, where you have a lot of “if this, then that” trees set up. Makes sense when so much is held up by Juan Soto.

Current Tiredness Level:

3. Pfft. Far less tired than Tony La Russa:

Current Caffeination of Choice:

Doubled up on Coke Zero.

Current Emotional Status:

Kinda don’t feel super well physically, as the adrenaline shocks come and go:

But still loved:

Random Thought Passing Through My Mind:

I was MOSTLY able to watch ‘Better Call Saul’ live and uninterrupted. Except for the Cardinals trade, which of course went down during the episode. Jerks would do that to me.
