I am currently blogging – here, on Facebook, and on Twitter (hash tag #BNBlogathon for those who want to jump into the fray themselves) – for 41 hours straight, past MLB’s August 2 Trade Deadline and through the Cubs/Cardinals game Tuesday night, thanks to your generous donations to Make-A-Wish. I’ll be doing recaps on the process throughout the day, but you’ll also see normal posting (Bullets, news, Pre-Gamin’, EBS, etc.), as well as a significant uptick in rumor/trade posts.

News and Rumors Since the Last Check-In:
Oh mercy. Things went silly.
The big one for us, of course, is that the Cubs traded Scott Effross to the Yankees. And then Josh Hader was traded to the Padres. Also the Angels seemingly took Shohei Ohtani off the market. Also the Padres extended Joe Musgrove.
Most Interesting Tidbit Since the Last Recap:
Pretty obviously the Effross trade, with the Cubs deciding to deal from a rare position of strength, even if involving a guy who had five years of team control remaining. So they take an impact reliever whom they helped develop into that role, and trade him for a near-MLB-ready starting pitching prospect in Hayden Wesneski. The Cubs need the latter more than the former. I get it. Stings to see Effross go, but with a little distance from the shock, I see the thinking.
Also, the Padres getting Hader without giving up any of their top pieces is certainly notable. They will make another move.
Current Thoughts About the Chicago Cubs’ Trade Deadline Strategy/Execution:
Well, the Cubs just traded a guy who was COMPLETELY NOT AT ALL on my radar for a trade, so I guess that means you have to bump up the over-under on players traded by one. I would’ve set it at 4.5, and I might’ve taken the under. Now? Not at all sure.
Current Tiredness Level:
0. The adrenaline from a shocking stretch like that boosts you big-time.
Current Caffeination of Choice:
A diet Dr. Pepper with lunch. I’m a Pepper.
Current Emotional Status:
Stirred. I don’t think, with some time, I’m upset about the Effross trade. I’m just rattled.
Random Thought Passing Through My Mind:
I hope it’s not going to be an issue for me to watch ‘Better Call Saul’ tonight. Like, look. I’m gonna watch it. What I mean is, I hope nothing huge is breaking (bad) during that hour, so I can really just watch and enjoy. No apologies on that. There are only three episodes left! And the spoilers! If I don’t watch it live, I’ll be a wreck for spoilers since I have to live on Twitter.
