Well, the Dodgers have acquired their lefty outfielder and it is, somewhat surprisingly, Joey Gallo.
The Yankees had been looking to dump Gallo for a while, and the Dodgers obliged:
Clayton Beeter appears to be a legit prospect, albeit one who has really struggled at Double-A this year. A pretty modest return, but it’s kinda surprising the Yankees got any return at all for Gallo, who is currently hitting .159/.282/.339/82 wRC+. Remember when he was a hot trade deadline commodity just last year?
Given the Dodgers’ already strong depth, I would bet a great deal that this forecloses any chance they’d look seriously at Ian Happ. Although Gallo has stunk this year, the Dodgers are getting him to see if he can bounce back. They won’t get him and then also add Happ to their crowded outfield mix.
