That’s a double-header – and series – sweep, which is never an enjoyable thing against the Cardinals, but when it happens in a season like this in August, at least it doesn’t send me into a rage.
New reliever Kervin Castro was close to getting out of a 7th inning jam of his own making, but Tyler O’Neill took him deep with two on and two outs. Matt Dermody followed with a rough 8th inning of his own, and a late tied game turned into a laugher. Yes, yes, insert bullpen trades comment.
Sean Newcomb was passable in his short outing tonight except for getting got by Paul Goldschmidt and Nolan Arenado. That’ll happen to better pitchers than Newcomb, so I can excuse it, but it makes it pretty hard to know how effective he could be. I’ll be curious to see if he gets another start, even as the rotation is now overcrowded (plus Wade Miley is coming back).
Offense kept it chill in this one, with just a couple hits. Laid back.
