The Cubs just needed some of that home cooking. Well, and some good pitching. And great defense.
Today is was Drew Smyly throwing his longest outing of the year, 6.2 excellent scoreless innings, and backed by some beautiful plays. Then Mark Leiter Jr. came in to finish it out, also the beneficiary of some great defense.
The Cubs got some timely hitting from Nico Hoerner and Willson Contreras, and a dinger from P.J. Higgins. It was just a good one all around, except for Christopher Morel’s early departure for a tight hamstring.
