Marcus Stroman is taking the ball for the Cubs tonight, following a relatively brilliant stretch of baseball. Here’s what I had to say about him in the Series preview, in case you missed it:
Marcus Stroman is also looking locked in lately. He threw 6.0 scoreless innings against the Cardinals his last time out before giving up a few runs in the seventh, and has otherwise been stellar since coming off the IL in early July: 1.67 ERA over 27.0 IP, all of which came against serious contenders or pretty good teams: Dodgers, Mets, Phillies, Giants, Cardinals.
Tonight, Stroman will get a MUCH weaker offensive lineup, so I’m expecting him to shove.
For the Nationals, swing-man Paolo Espino is starting the game. Espino has not completed 5.0 innings in six of his last seven starts, a stretch in which he’s allowed 23 earned runs in 30.0 IP. This is another game the Cubs should really win.
