We’ve got ourselves a rubber match! The Chicago Cubs are meeting the Washington Nationals for a 1:20 first pitch at Wrigley Field this afternoon, with the series on the line. How exciting.
Justin Steele is taking the mound for the Cubs, coming off a weird start in which he struck out 10 batters and walked only one, but lasted only 4.2 innings total. And that came after another successful (6Ks, 1BB, 0ER), but short (3.2 IP) start against the Giants that featured one really long inning that shut him down sooner than expected.
I’m guessing Steele will be pitching to contact a little more than normal today, with the goal of lasting deeper into the ballgame.
Meanwhile, Josiah Gray is starting for the Nationals coming off a 4-homer outing against the Phillies his last time out. In fact, Gray has allowed at least one home run in seven straight games, average 2 per game over that stretch. Might not be a bad day to bet on a homer.
