I was out with the family visiting my parents for most of the day, so I didn’t return to the game until the bases-loaded opportunity in the 8th. The Cubs were down three, so Nelson Velazquez and Ian Happ each had a chance to play hero, but unfortunately both struck out. My bad.
It seems Keegan Thompson did not have the good command today, which kinda felt like it was coming for a while (the last few outings haven’t been as sharp, and there’s been a lot of hard contact). I wouldn’t have any concerns, because this is a guy who is still developing and adjusting as a big league starter, and is now well past his career high in innings.
The Cubs scored all five runs today by way of three dingers:
Cubs notched 12 hits in the game, too, but it wasn’t enough.
