Call it the Hell Freezes Over bet, because, well, you get the reference.
Someone apparently just bet with Caesars Sportsbook that the Chicago Cubs would win the World Series. As in, from today to this upcoming World Series. As you would expect, the odds are enormous:
Turning a hundred bucks into a quarter of a million sounds like a great idea to me! But, well …
Perhaps the bettor noticed that the Cubs are 13-9 in their last 22 games and felt like it was the start of a hot streak! Unfortunately for the bettor and the Cubs, even if they continued to win at that .591 clip the rest of the way, they would win another 29 games, and finish the season 76-86, solidly out of the postseason picture.
Hey, maybe they’ll pick up the pace further from here and sneak in as a Wild Card! Well, that looks like it’s going to require at least, say, 86 wins (the Padres have the last spot right now and are on pace for 90 wins), which would in turn require the Cubs going 39-10 the rest of the way. I guess I wouldn’t quite call it impossible, but I certainly wouldn’t bet on it.
If you were wondering, the Cubs’ playoff odds at FanGraphs currently stand at 0.0%. I am not sure +250,000 is enough for a World Series bet on the Cubs, to be honest.
Keep dreaming, though!
