It’s a battle of the lefties tonight at Nationals Park, with Justin Steele and the Cubs taking on Patrick Corbin and the Nationals. Steele has been hot lately, striking out 19 batters over his last two starts, walking just one, and limiting the hard contact. And it’s been the exact opposite story for Corbin, who’s struggles all year. And while the Cubs are loading up on righties for tonight’s contest against the southpaw, batters of both varieties have hit Corbin just fine all season.
Chicago Cubs Lineup:
- Nick Madrigal, 2B
- Willson Contreras, C
- Patrick Wisdom, 3B
- Seiya Suzuki, RF
- Franmil Reyes, DH
- Nico Hoerner, SS
- Nelson Velázquez, LF
- P.J. Higgins, 1B
- Chris Morel, CF
SP: Justin Steele, LHP
Nonetheless, Ian Happ, Zach McKinstry, and Rafael Ortega are all on the bench tonight in favor of Nelson Velázquez, Patrick Wisdom (moving from 1B to 3B), and Chris Morel. With Wisdom on the opposite corner, first base is open for P.J. Higgins to continue demonstrating why he’s worthy of a roster spot next season.
Nick Madrigal continues to lead off, Franmil Reyes continues to DH, and Nico Hoerner continues to bat further down in the order than you’d ultimately prefer, but whatever. It’s way too late in the season to start picking those nits.
As usual, we’ll have your full Pre-Gamin’ post closer to game time (6:05 CT).
