There is a line at the ballpark when it comes to trash talking the players. You can run your mouth a bit at the players if that’s your thing, but you’re never going to be able to get wholly-out-of-line nasty. There’s no reason for it, and if security busts you, the consequences can be long-lasting.
Apparently that’s what happened after last night’s Cubs-Nationals game, when some fans were inappropriate toward Willson Contreras – and maybe also to his family? – and they got a five-year boot.
Meghan Montemurro has the scoop, and Willson’s quotes:
You can just start to make it out, briefly, at the tail end of the clip of the sac fly (once you ignore the part where Rafael Ortega gets himself thrown out for no reason):
Must’ve been bad to get Willson Contreras that upset that immediately, to get the fans kicked out immediately, and then to earn them a five-year ban from the ballpark. Good seats, too, so you wonder if they were season ticket holders.
Good on the Nationals for responding to the incident so promptly, and I would think a five-year ban is sufficient? I know there are probably ways around it, but still. Better than nothing.
