The Cubs are back at Wrigley Field this afternoon, hosting the Brewers for three straight games before the Cardinals come to town. The lefty Aaron Ashby is on the mound for Milwaukee, coming off a solid start against the Cardinals (6.0 IP, 3H, 2ER, 2BB, 5Ks). This will be Ashby’s third start against the Cubs this season and third at Wrigley Field.
The last time he was here, he struck out 12 batters over six innings of one-run ball.
Meanwhile, Keegan Thompson is going for the Cubs as he starts to show some signs of fatigue here at the end of the season. His most recent start was a blowup outing against the Reds (4 ER in 1.2 IP) and while the one before that was good in terms of results (6.0 IP, 1ER against the Nats), his velocity was down, his spin was down, and he was getting hit hard … and the Nats are not a good offense. I’d really love to see a strong start from him today, but we might be nearing the end of his rope for the season. We’ll see.
Go Cubs.
