Since coming off the IL (and back from Iowa) Nick Madrigal is slashing .325/.413/.375 (129 wRC+) in 47 plate appearances with a 10.6% strikeout rate. That’s the guy the Cubs are more or less hoping he can be throughout his career, probably with a little less OBP and a little more SLG. He leads off again today against the righty Freddy Peralta.
Chicago Cubs Lineup:
- Nick Madrigal, 2B
- Willson Contreras, C
- Ian Happ, LF
- Seiya Suzuki, RF
- Franmil Reyes, DH
- Nico Hoerner, SS
- Patrick Wisdom, 1B
- Zach McKinstry, 3B
- Chris Morel, CF
SP: Marcus Stroman, RHP
There’s no way to not sound like a homer, but hey … it’s a Saturday and the Cubs have won 10 of their last 14: That lineup doesn’t look half-bad!
Obviously, that’s not a contender right there, but after the lineups we saw in the second half of last season and even during much of this year, the Cubs somehow look better after the deadline than before. I guess that’s because they basically added three hitters to their lineup AFTER the deadline (Madrigal came back, Reyes was claimed, and McKinstry was acquired in trade).
Among the notable histories vs. Freddy Peralta (good and bad)
Happ: 1-14, HR, 2BB, 7Ks
Hoerner: 3-7, two 2Bs,
Contreras: 3-12, 2B, 2BB, 4Ks
