The Cubs dropped a pitchers’ duel at Wrigley Field last night, which means you can expect a bajillion runs scored today. Here’s David Ross’ lineup for the first-half of the double header in Chicago.
Chicago Cubs Lineup:
- Zach McKinstry, 2B
- Nico Hoerner, SS
- Ian Happ, LF
- Seiya Suzuki, RF
- Franmil Reyes, DH
- Rafael Ortega, CF
- Yan Gomes, C
- P.J. Higgins, 1B
- Chris Morel, 3B
SP: Javier Assad, RHP
First thing’s first, if you missed Bryan’s introduction to this afternoon’s starting pitcher, Javier Assad, please do check that out. It’s got everything you need to know about the Cubs righty.
Beyond that, the Cubs are leading off today with Zack McKinstry, who hasn’t started since Saturday. He’ll take over second base in Game 1 with Nick Madrigal on the bench against the righty, Adam Wainwright.
Speaking of a righty Cardinals starter, Rafael Ortega is back in the lineup in center field, which pushes Chris Morel to third base. Given the sheer volume of outfielders the Cubs have percolating up through the system, I think the Cubs are going to want to see as much of Morel along the infield as possible the rest of the way.
As usual, we’ll have your full Pre-Gamin’ post closer to game time (1:20 CT). Also, we’ll have your Cubs Bullets and Roster Moves written up shortly.
