The Cubs took the first-half of today’s double-header against the Cardinals, which was another pitchers duel at Wrigley Field. Tonight, they’ll look to sweep the day behind Adrian Sampson and the following Chicago Cubs lineup.
Chicago Cubs Lineup:
- Nick Madrigal, 2B
- Ian Happ, LF
- Seiya Suzuki, RF
- Franmil Reyes, DH
- Nico Hoerner, SS
- Patrick Wisdom, 1B
- P.J. Higgins, C
- Nelson Velázquez, CF
- Chris Morel, 3B
SP: Adrian Sampson, RHP
The first thing I noticed in this lineup was the distinct lack of Willson Contreras who also didn’t start this afternoon’s game. He did catch last night, though, so I’m guessing he’s fine and this is just what you do when you have three catchers on the roster for a stretch of five games in four days.
With Contreras out of the lineup, everyone at the top is moved up in the order.
The more notable bit, however, is the return of Patrick Wisdom, who had been out with a finger/hand injury after a play at the plate. I’m glad to see him back. He’s at first base, leaving third open for Chris Morel, which leaves center open for Nelson Velázquez.
As usual, we’ll have your full Pre-Gamin’ post closer to game time (7:05 CT).
