The flood gates were opened last night, as the Cardinals offense finally broke through against the Cubs. And unfortunately, with 31-year-old Triple-A swing-man Luke Farrell on the mound tonight, the outlook isn’t much rosier. Here’s David Ross’ lineup for Game 4 against the righty Miles Mikolas and his St. Louis Cardinals.
Chicago Cubs Lineup:
- Nick Madrigal, 2B
- Ian Happ, LF
- Franmil Reyes, DH
- Nico Hoerner, SS
- Patrick Wisdom, 1B
- Rafael Ortega, CF
- Yan Gomes, C
- Nelson Velázquez, RF
- Zach McKinstry, 3B
SP: Luke Farrell, RHP
Willson Contreras is out of the lineup again tonight, apparently still feeling stiffness in that left ankle he badly turned during the Field of Dreams game, which is a shame, because he’s hit Mikolas fairly well throughout his career: 7-19, 2 doubles, HR, and just one strikeout. Instead it’ll be Yan Gomes behind the plate.
Meanwhile, Patrick Wisdom is back at first base tonight, and he doesn’t have quite as strong of a track record against Mikolas, with five strikeouts in just eight at-bats. Woof.
The cleanup (Hoerner) and No. six (Ortega) Cubs hitters, however, are each 4-10 against Mikolas, and Ian Happ is 7-23, 2 doubles, 1 walk … but with 8Ks.
As usual, we’ll have your full Pre-Gamin’ post closer to game time (7:05 CT).
