Last night, amidst the blowout against the Cardinals, the Cubs turned to designated hitter Franmil Reyes to pitch the 9th inning, and it turns out HE’S A RELIEF ACE.
Reyes started out his 9th inning appearance by plunking Albert Pujols, so it was a stellar outing from the jump:
Then, he craftily induced a tailor-made double-play ball from Paul Goldschmidt to erase the baserunner he’d put on:
And to wrap the near-perfect appearance, Franmil Reyes threw a BLISTERING 90 MPH fastball at the top of the zone to strike out Paul DeJong:
And look! Reyes has not-terrible spin on his fastball:
Can you believe the Guardians just gave this guy up for nothing? They had the next Shohei Ohtani or Anthony Rizzo just staring them in the face and they set him free.
