Miles Mikolas’ resurgent year continues tonight at Wrigley Field, as he looks to build upon back-to-back 8.0 inning starts against the Brewers and Diamondbacks (combined): 3ER, 6H, 1BB, 10Ks.
Mikolas did have a blowup starting just before those outings, however, featuring 10 ER over 2.2 innings in Colorado, But he’s generally been quite good all season: 3.32 ERA, 118 Ks, 28 BBs.
Mikolas has faced the Cubs three times already this year, with varying degrees of success:
6/03: 5.0 IP, 8H, 4ER, 3BB, 4Ks
6/25: 6.0 IP, 4H, 1ER, 1BB, 9Ks
8/04: 6.1 IP, 8H, 3ER, 1BB, 6Ks
Obviously it’s not all good there, but the Cubs have hit .294/.333/.426 (.329 wOBA) off Mikolas for the season. So it’s not all bad, either.
Up from Triple-A Iowa, 31-year-old Luke Farrell is taking the mound for the Cubs. Farrell has been swinging in and out of the rotation/bullpen for Iowa all season, and not performing particularly well: 5.03 ERA. His last three appearances were out of the ‘pen, and his last start was all the way back on July 27.
So … it might not be a particularly fun night.
