Well, well, well. We’ve got ourselves a five-game rubber match between the Cardinals and Cubs. That’s fun. Here’s David Ross’ lineup with Marcus Stroman on the mound against Cardinals righty Dakota Hudson.
Chicago Cubs Lineup:
- Zach McKinstry, 2B
- Nico Hoerner, SS
- Seiya Suzuki, RF
- Ian Happ, LF
- Franmil Reyes, DH
- P.J. Higgins, C
- Patrick Wisdom, 1B
- Nelson Velázquez, CF
- Chris Morel, 3B
SP: Marcus Stroman, RHP
Although it’s not true for his career, Hudson has struggled mightily against right-handed batters this season, allowing a .303/.367/.431 slash line (.350 wOBA) compared to just a .300 wOBA against lefties. I suppose that’s good news for a Cubs team without many left-handed batters.
Of course, the Cubs are leading off with a lefty today, in what amounts to a total remake of the top of the order.
With Willson Contreras still out of the lineup with a stiff ankle, Seiya Suzuki leapfrogging Ian Happ, Nick Madrigal getting the day off, and Nico Hoerner batting second, the top of the Cubs order is unique for today’s finale against the Cardinals. But I like it.
Other than that, P.J. Higgins is the man behind the plate this afternoon, Nelson Velázquez is getting the nod in center over Rafael Ortega, and Chris Morel is at third instead of Patrick Wisdom.
As usual, we’ll have your full Pre-Gamin’ post closer to game time (1:20 CT).
