Nick Madrigal may not be having the season we all hoped he would when the Cubs traded for him at the 2021 deadline, but he has shown some signs of life at the plate here in August. We already dove into the numbers to help explain why he’s looked so much more comfortable at the plate lately, but it could be as simple as him finally feeling fully healthy.
And I say that even more confidently after watching what looks to be his best defensive play of the season. Check it out, as he runs, spins, and hurly an absolute dime to P.J. Higgins at first base for the tough out!
Madrigal has never really been known for his defense – particularly his range and arm – but that was as smooth as it gets. I really loved watching that play and I’m much more confident in his ability to contribute next season than I was after the first couple months of the year.
