The Cubs have split the first two games of this series, beating the Reds by six runs in Game 1 and losing by six in Game 2. That makes this a rubber match and a not particularly ideal outcome for a team ahead of Chicago in the reverse standings (either crush them or lose, Cubs … come on. We had a plan). Here’s David Ross’ lineup for Game 3 at Wrigley Field.
Chicago Cubs Lineup:
- Zach McKinstry, 2B
- Seiya Suzuki, RF
- Franmil Reyes, DH
- Ian Happ, LF
- Nico Hoerner, SS
- P.J. Higgins, C
- Alfonso Rivas, 1B
- Nelson Velázquez, CF
- David Bote, 3B
SP: Adrian Sampson, RHP
As expected, P.J. Higgins is behind the plate this afternoon, which leaves Yan Gomes on the bench after his four-hit game last night. That move leaves first base open for Alfonso Rivas.
Meanwhile, both Chris Morel and Nick Madrigal are out of the lineup, opening up second base for Zach McKinstry and third base for David Bote. Nelson Velázquez is drawing another start in center field, though he’s been ice cold since August 9: .151/.250/.189 (31 wRC+).
As usual, we’ll have your full Pre-Gamin’ post closer to game time (1:20 CT). The game is on YoutTube today, for free.
