Although I’ve had a wonderful time laughing at Tony La Russa’s MANY questionable dugout decisions and antics this season — and as much as I’ve always thought he was the wrong guy for this Sox team — I was sad to hear that health issues forced him out of his post. In case you missed it, La Russa hasn’t been with his team since August 30, when he left Guaranteed Rate Field an hour before the game at the advice of his doctors.
But according to Jon Heyman, and friends of La Russa, the White Sox manager is going to be okay and is aiming to return to the dugout sometime next week. The details of his absense were always a little vague, but there were reports of heart testing. For whatever that’s worth to you.
With that said, there has been no official update from the White Sox “at this time,” as to when La Russa will return. But with an off-day scheduled on Monday and a series at home starting on Tuesday, I’d bet that’s when we’ll see him back in the dugout.
And when he’s back there safely and healthy, I’ll resume laughing at him for intentionally walking batters with two strikes, listening to the advice of fans in the crowd, and occasionally dozing off during a long inning.
