The Cubs beat the Mets last night, but the Braves dropped their third in a row, so New York remains in first place. Like Brett, it would be my great honor to spoil the Mets season, especially if it meant beating Jacob deGrom tonight.
Of course, Jacob deGrom is Jacob deGrom. And while he started this season way late, he’s made up for lost time over his seven starts: 43.1 IP, 20H, 8ER, 4BB, 63Ks. It will not be an easy matchup for the Cubs, especially without Willson Contreras and Nico Hoerner in the lineup.
Of course, Adrian Sampson just tossed two nice games back-to-back: 11.0 IP, 3ER, 2BB, 5Ks against the Cardinals and Reds. But last night notwithstanding, the Mets offense has been red-hot lately, with a 156 wRC+ over the past week (highest in MLB), a 134 wRC+ over the past two weeks (4th highest), and a 116 wRC+ over the past month (5th highest).
