After beating Chris Bassitt and Jacob deGrom (somehow), the Cubs are looking to complete a sweep tonight against the Mets. Here’s David Ross’ lineup for the finale in New York.
Chicago Cubs Lineup:
- Chris Morel, SS
- Seiya Suzuki, RF
- Franmil Reyes, DH
- Patrick Wisdom, 3B
- Yan Gomes, C
- P.J. Higgins, 1B
- Michael Hermosillo, CF
- Nelson Velázquez, LF
- David Bote, 2B
SP: Drew Smyly, LHP
Mets starter David Peterson may be a lefty, but he’s pretty close to split neutral for his career, so that’s not much of a factor tonight. Of course, with Rafael Ortega done for the season, plus the absences of Willson Contreras, Nick Madrigal, and Nico Hoerner, there are only so many maximized lineups the Cubs can run out there anyway.
Nonetheless, there are no lefties in tonight’s lineup, not even the switch-hitting Ian Happ.
In left field, we’ll see Nelson Velázquez, in center we’ve got Michael Hermosillo, at first it’s P.J. Higgins (not Alfonso Rivas), and at second it’s David Bote (not Zach McKinstry). That leaves third open for Patrick Wisdom and catcher for Yan Gomes.
Meanwhile, Chris Morel is back at shortstop and leading off (this guy has had such a long, demanding season … remember, he came straight out of Double-A), and Franmil Reyes is, of course, the DH.
As usual, we’ll have your full Pre-Gamin’ post closer to game time (6:10 CT).
