I have heard of bad injury luck before, but this might be an all-time case.
Atlanta Braves second baseman Ozzie Albies returned to the team yesterday after missing the last three months with a broken foot. The return was heralded, which I know because I was seeing it all over my various baseball consumption points. The Braves are just a game back of the New York Mets in the NL East, and having Albies back, finally, could help that push. It was a compelling story!
So anyway, Albies returns yesterday, at last. Then tonight, just ONE DAY LATER, this happens:
The Braves announced shortly thereafter that Albies broke his right pinky. ONE DAY after returning from the broken foot. That’s just … I mean, I feel really bad for the guy.
As for how long Ozzie Albies will be out with a broken pinkie, I think it’s a little hard to say. Maybe he’d be able to tape it up and throw again soon? But what about holding the bat with authority? Wouldn’t your grip be impacted?
I guess we’ll see, and it’s not like I’m rooting for the Mets to get any help in the East …
