Oof … Injuries Really Are Doing a Number on the Chicago Cubs Lineup

Chicago Cubs

The Cubs and Marlins are opening up a new three-game set tonight in Miami. There are just 15 games left after this one, so get your fill while there’s still Cubs baseball on the air.

Chicago Cubs Lineup:

  1. Zach McKinstry, 2B
  2. Ian Happ, LF
  3. Yan Gomes, C
  4. Franmil Reyes, DH
  5. P.J. Higgins, 1B
  6. David Bote, 3B
  7. Nelson Velázquez, RF
  8. Michael Hermosillo, CF
  9. Chris Morel, SS

SP: Wade Miley, LHP

You know the Cubs are hurting when the third hitter in their lineup is a 35-year-old backup catcher with a 78 wRC+. But what are you gonna do? Nico Hoerner, Willson Contreras, Seiya Suzuki, Rafael Ortega, and Nick Madrigal are all on the shelf. There aren’t many other options to populate the top of the order.

There also aren’t many surprises this evening – no Jared Young or Patrick Wisdom, as the corners are occupied by David Bote and P.J. Higgins. And Michael Hermosillo continues to draw the majority of starts in center field.

As usual, we’ll have your full Pre-Gamin’ post closer to game time (5:40 CT).
