I don’t know what the immediate future holds for David Bote and the Chicago Cubs. He’s got a couple years left on his contract, but his 40-man roster spot will be extra valuable this offseason. I tend to think the Cubs won’t want to cut him just yet, but I think it was at least going to be a conversation.
He’s certainly doing his best lately to push that conversation in one direction. Bote has been ripping the ball regularly lately (his average exit velocity is up to 91.5 mph this year), and the home run he just hit to tie the game pushed his season slash line to officially above average (.261/.316/.409/105 wRC+).
That thing was crushed, too. It was 109.3 mph off the bat and 419 feet out to left center.
