The Cubs came back late to win a pitcher’s duel, with Adrian Sampson, Adbert Alzolay, and Brandon Hughes all pitching exceptionally well tonight. More on each of them coming, and although the Marlins aren’t world-beaters at the plate, it was still an impressive performance. Great defensive behind them, too.
Loved to see Esteban Quiroz notch a couple hits in his first big league start after years and years of trying to make it to The Show.
David Bote has had a quiet year, given the recovery from the shoulder surgery, the lengthy absence, the time at Iowa, and the time spent rotating in, sparingly, to an infield group that has been at times surprisingly crowded. But he’s making the most of it lately, pushing his season line past the “average” mark, and generating the run-scoring portion of the Cubs’ offense tonight.
