Never mention a winning streak out loud. As soon as you do, it ends. No more four-game winning streak for the Cubs.
Even against the Pirates, the Cubs aren’t going to win ’em all the rest of the way. Still a winning record in the second half!
Wade Miley started feeling something in the 5th inning tonight after a walk and an errant throw (oblique tightness), and Adbert Alzolay couldn’t clean up the mess without giving up a lot more of his own. A lot of what Alzolay did tonight was solid again (3 hits, no walks, and 3 strikeouts over 3.0 innings). Unfortunately, one thing he did was hang an 85 mph changeup right down the middle of the plate to lefty Jack Suwinski, who crushed it waaaay out to center for a three-run homer.
Nothing doing for the bats tonight, and the thinned lineup is becoming increasingly noticeable. The Cubs struck out 11 times, against just 5 hits and 1 walk. Not gonna win too many with that kind of ratio.
