After winning the first two games of the series, the Chicago Cubs are now three games over .500 in the second half of the season (better than the White Sox!). And with 8 of their remaining 11 games against the Pirates (2) and Reds (6), they have a pretty good shot at finishing the second-half solidly above .500.
That starts with tonight’s contest against the Pirates, with Wade Miley on the mound for Chicago. Miley’s last start was a bit of a disaster, with 7 runs coming across the board in his 3.0 innings of work (only 3 were earned, but it was still not a great performance). Miley will want to finish the season strong, as he heads back into free agency.
The Pirates are starting swing-man Johan Oviedo, who’s worked primarily out of the bullpen this season, but has also made four straight starts in a row. Good numbers for the year (in terms of ERA and strikeouts, especially), but a little wild and not unhittable.
I know the reverse standings are slipping away from us a little bit, but whatever. At this point, I’d rather just see them win.
