I can’t dig in too deep right now due to family needs, but I wanted to at least get the news up here, because it’s pretty significant: one of the theoretical best starting pitcher options on NEXT year’s free agent market is no longer going to be ON next year’s free agent market.
A couple months after trading for him at the deadline, the Seattle Mariners are locking up Luis Castillo (it happened so fast I didn’t even have a fresh picture of Castillo with the Mariners!):
Castillo, 29, was arbitration eligible for one more year, and has posted a 2.85 ERA this year (3.07 FIP) over 139.0 innings. This deal comes after the Mariners signed rookie star Julio Rodriguez to a monster deal of his own.
More analysis on the market impact soon.
