Report: Tony La Russa Will Not Return to Manage the White Sox in 2023

Chicago Cubs

It was a fair guess after he first departed the team (and they played better), after a season of massive underperformance and disappointment, but now it’s being actively reported: even with a year left on his contract, Tony La Russa will not return to manage the Chicago White Sox.

The rumors have made the rounds for about a day, but Dan Bernstein lends some weight:

If true, the White Sox will be among the organizations undertaking a managerial and/or front office search. I find it interesting anyway because of the crosstown stuff, but I also just generally all managerial/front office moves compelling because of the way they can impact other organizations.

That said, it’ll be a bummer to lose the lulz that have accompanied Tony La Russa’s managerial style.
