Much like our speechlessness for his power-hitting partner, Matt Mervis, there is almost nothing left to say about the incredible season of Alexander Canario.
The 22-year-old outfielder has simply been amazing as he’s navigated his way from High-A, to Double-A, to Triple-A this season, hitting at every single stop after a brief adjustment. This afternoon, in the Iowa Cubs final game of the season, Canario launched yet ANOTHER home run, his 37th of the season, which puts him one ahead of Mervis for second most overall across the entire minor league landscape.
That homer helped the Cubs tie the game in the bottom of the ninth inning, setting up Jared Young’s walk-off, two-run homer.
Cubs win. Cubs win.
Canario’s strong finish to the season has him set up for a big role on the Chicago Cubs as soon as 2023.
