The Chicago Cubs can’t lose! Well, the second half Cubs anyway. Can they clinch a second half postseason berth?
Hayden Wesneski looked really good again tonight, and this time against a rather robust offensive lineup. Wesneski’s night was shortened by the six hits he gave up, four of which were absolutely garbage contact. One of his walks should’ve been a strikeout, too. So, yeah, he was even better than his five innings and one earned run.
The bullpen was solid from there, including Adbert Alzolay getting (and succeeding at) a dirty inning opportunity.
It wouldn’t be a Cubs win without Brandon Hughes making an appearance. Honestly, it’s getting rather bothersome. I’m sure he’s down for it. I’m sure there are biometric reasons the Cubs have for believing it’s not an issue. I know Ross wants to win, and I know Hughes is dang good. But good gravy, take it easy on the young and inexperienced arm.
Christopher Morel had the big blow, and the Cubs win yet again. Win number 69 on the season.
