The Cubs are loading up with right-handed hitters this afternoon, with the Reds lefty Nick Lodolo on the mound. That includes Willson Contreras back up top and behind the plate. You love to see it.
Chicago Cubs Lineup:
- Willson Contreras, C
- Seiya Suzuki, RF
- Ian Happ, LF
- Patrick Wisdom, 3B
- Nico Hoerner, SS
- Franmil Reyes, DH
- David Bote, 1B
- Nelson Velázquez, CF
- Chris Morel, 2B
SP: Drew Smyly, LHP
It’s funny to think a out how great this lineup looks with (almost) everyone healthy and stacked up top, compared to that multi-week stretch without Seiya Suzuki, Nico Hoerner, Patrick Wisdom, and Willson Contreras. It’s not like these guys are world beaters or anything, but it feels like it by comparison.
Anyway, David Ross is rolling with all righties (including the switch-hitting Ian Happ) today against the lefty Nick Lodolo, and, uh … yeah. That makes sense:
vsLHH: .109/.226/.130 (.183 wOBA) – 39.6 K%, 72 GB%
vsRHH: .259/.351/.438 (.348 wOBA)
It’s not a massive sample, but so far, in his career, Lodolo has dominated lefties and been dominated by righties. He can still strikeout right-handed hitters at an impressive clip (28.8%), but they’re clearly able to do damage when they put the bat on the ball. Good choices by David Ross.
As usual, we’ll have your full Pre-Gamin’ post closer to game time (1:20 CT).
