We’re back in action with another quadruple-header of Postseason action today with four teams looking to punch their ticket to the divisional series!
Tampa Bay Rays at Cleveland Guardians (CLE Leads 1-0)
Game 1 in Cleveland was a battle of the Shanes with Bieber and the Guardians edging out McClanahan and the Rays in a tightly contested pitcher’s duel. All of the scoring came in the sixth inning with Jose Siri hitting a solo home run for the Rays in the top of the sixth and then Cleveland’s MVP Jose Ramirez struck back with a long ball of his own in the home half of the sixth, a two-run home run that gave Cleveland the lead for good.
Bieber allowed one run on three hits while striking out eight over seven and two-thirds innings. McClanahan allowed two runs on seven hits while striking out five in seven innings. In the 2021 Postseason, we saw only four starts of seven or more innings, and Bieber and McClanahan already gave us two on day one.

Philadelphia Phillies at St. Louis Cardinals (PHI Leads 1-0)
The Phillies treated us to our first ninth-inning comeback of the Postseason, plating six in the final frame to erase a 2-0 deficit and take Game 1 in St. Louis.
After striking out Rhys Hoskins, Ryan Helsley was just two outs from doing the same for the Cardinals. Then the Phils strung together a single, two walks, a hit by pitch, and another single to take the lead. They would tack on a few insurance runs before they were done and take the early lead in this best of three.
