That is a WILD headline for me to be typing. I’m kind of shaking my head as I look at it. But it’s real. Such is 2022.
Anyway, former Chicago Cubs outfielder Kyle Schwarber (and his current Philadelphia Phillies) is facing former Chicago Cubs righty Yu Darvish (and his current San Diego Padres) in Game One of the National League Championship Series. Darvish is pitching well tonight, but he’s given up a couple runs through six innings, the second of which was a Schwarber homer.
A very, very, very long Schwarber homer:
That isn’t just an upper-deck shot for Kyle Schwarber. That is 488 feet and 119.7 mph off the bat. You can scarcely hit it harder than that. And off of Yu Darvish to boot!
Darvish knew immediately it was long gone, obviously, and Bryce Harper’s reaction said it all. To say destroyed is probably too light. Happy for Schwarber in that moment, of course, but you also feel a bit for Darvish. Because this one is going to be on highlight reels for a longgggg time.
As for the Cubs, well, they’ll have to remember that both of these guys were with them, and both were sent out in the same month in December 2020.
Stray note for posterity:
