It’s still really weird to me – and, well, the MLB history books – that you had an American League Division Series coming to a conclusion on the same day that you had the National League Championship Series starting.
New York Yankees 5, Cleveland Guardians 1 – NYY Wins ALDS 3-2
Probably the outcome the home offices were rooting for, setting up a New York-Houston ALCS that’ll be full of all kinds of storylines and two major markets. I would’ve liked to see the Guardians slay the Yankees, but I will admit that I do also like seeing good things happen for Anthony Rizzo.
The game was not particularly competitive, with the Yankees going up 4-0 in the first two innings (starter Aaron Civale lasted just one out), getting homers from Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton.
Gleyber Torres did a little rockin’-the-baby celebration in response to Josh Naylor’s celebration off of Gerrit Cole the game before:
For his part, though, Naylor’s response to the taunts he got from Yankees fans all night was perfect:
It probably wouldn’t have been the difference in the game, but howwww do you miss this:
Was the team’s replay staff literally asleep? That might be the easiest challenge ever.
Anyway. The Yankees now immediately head to Houston, because they’ve got to begin the ALCS tonight at 6:37pm CT. Jameson Taillon will face a rested Justin Verlander for Game One.

Philadelphia Phillies 2, San Diego Padres 0 – PHI Leads NLCS 1-0
A Bryce Harper home run and a Kyle Schwarber home run. That was it for the scoring in this one, as both Yu Darvish and Zack Wheeler were excellent, and the bullpens allowed bupkis.
That Schwarber homer, though. It was 120(!) feet further than Harper’s homer. There is still so much to show and say:
The Padres will try to even things back up in the NLCS today at 3:35 pm CT, with Aaron Nola facing Blake Snell.
