White Sox Find Their New Manager: Royals Bench Coach Pedro Grifol

Chicago Cubs

The last open managerial slot is now filled. The Chicago White Sox finally have their Tony La Russa replacement.

And they went the much more traditional route for a hiring this time:

Grifol, 52, has been a Royals coach for nearly a decade, and was a minor league coach in the Mariners’ system before that. He played in the minor leagues before that, so again, it was a pretty traditional route toward the big league managerial seat.

The official announcement and press conference and all that should be coming soon, and then the process of filling out a staff. Pitching coach Ethan Katz WOULD have been a hot target out there for other clubs if he’d been let go, so it makes sense that Grifol has basically been told, no, you’re keeping him.

With Grifol getting the job, that means it’s likely there won’t be much more hilarity coming from the South Side manager. I’m really going to miss that.
