Correa, Bogaerts, deGrom, and Rodon Officially Opt Out and Are Now Free Agents

Chicago Cubs

These are perfunctory decisions, since we’ve long expected them, but now it’s official: among others, Jacob deGrom, Carlos Rodon, Carlos Correa, Xander Bogaerts have opted out of their contracts and are officially free agents.

As announced by the MLBPA:

Robert Suarez, Jurickson Profar, and Taijuan Walker all become interesting free agents, too, though again, that was expected.

These players are still within an exclusive negotiating window with their former teams, and cannot talk specific terms with new suitors until Thursday. But those new teams can now start reaching out to express interest. (“Hey, we love you and, you know, maybe don’t sign anything until Thursday … I can imagine 200 million reasons that would be a bad idea.”)
