It’s not like I thought the Chicago Cubs would be the only serious suitor for Japanese ace Kodai Senga … it’s just that I kinda hoped they would be. Like, maybe their mutual affection would be so strong that it was just a matter of figuring out the right dollar amount, and boom, the deal would get done.
That was silly. Of course it was silly. A lot of your hoping about anything in free agency is silly. Silly, Brett.
Of course other teams are gonna pull out all the recruiting stops, too:
So right there, you have the Giants either preparing for, or already engaged in, one of those spotlight tours – “Imagine yourself staring right here! You are our biggest focus this offseason! Look at the video package we put together for you!” – with Senga. Whether it works or not, or whether it’s accompanied by a massive offer, we know what this looks like. The Giants are seriously interested in Senga and they are trying to woo him. They have obvious needs in the rotation and plenty of cash to spend. Dang.
And just for a little more confirmation of Senga being stateside – and other teams that are interested – here’s this:
We’ll see if we catch wind of the Cubs hosting Senga at any point and trying to put on their own show. There have been rumors of interest from the Blue Jays and Dodgers, too, so it’s a robust field for a high-upside starting pitcher.
