WOW: Jacob deGrom Signing a Massive Five-Year Deal with the Rangers

Chicago Cubs

This is nuts. Nuts. I am blown off my seat by the scope of this deal, especially after the Rangers signed Corey Seager and Marcus Semien to monster deals just last year.

Jacob deGrom is leaving the New York Mets:

The implications here just go in every direction. The Rangers were known to be heavy on the top pitchers, and now they’ve landed deGrom. So are they done?

And now, how do the Mets respond – how sure were they that the could keep deGrom in the first place?

Also, that guarantee to deGrom BLOWS AWAY the estimates. When healthy, he easily deserves it, but no one expected him to get more than three guaranteed years, let alone FIVE. Meanwhile, Carlos Rodon might’ve just lost his hottest suitor, but he also just got a good reason to ask for six years (albeit at a lower AAV).

Also, also, does this break open the top of the market?

My head is spinning, and things are officially exploding.

As for the Rangers, their payroll is going through the roof, and they might be … the third best team in the AL West? Maybe? Are they about to be the most loaded team ever to project for 81 wins?
