With Aaron Judge having signed with the Yankees, it was a great and easy bet that the shortstop market would pick up again today, and now there’s a report that has the “vibe” of something going to happen.
Xander Bogaerts might be going back to Boston:
As we saw with Judge, a lot of times, these lifelong star players really don’t want to leave their teams. But they DO have to explore free agency with a sincere and open mind, if only to make sure their home team pays up. I wonder if that’s what has been happening with Bogaerts.
Marino Pepรฉn definitely implies something is coming:
Hey, maybe this just means Gordon Wittenmyer is right that the Cubs were only ever kicking the tires on Bogaerts, and were always preferring Carlos Correa as 1A and Dansby Swanson as 1B …
Or maybe it means Bogaerts will stay with the Sox, Swanson will stay with the Braves, and Correa will stay with the Twins (or join the Giants).
WOULDN’T THAT BE COOL?!
UPDATE: Sigh. This is totally gonna happen:
Here’s hoping the Cubs are prepared to get appropriately aggressive – quickly – on Carlos Correa and/or Dansby Swanson.
