New Chicago Cubs starting pitcher Jameson Taillon was introduced, officially, today with a press conference carried on Marquee. His likability was off the charts, which tracks with what I’ve heard about him as a teammate and a makeup guy.
- The recruitment effort from the Cubs was immediate, and had the hallmarks of the full-court press the Cubs put on when they have a particular target to woo:
- Notable there, too, that Rizzo, Effross, and Williams – each of whom was traded by the Cubs – spoke highly of the organization. Anthony Rizzo, facilitator:
- I’m sure the Cubs feel this way, too, given how aggressively they targeted him and the size of the contract (four years, $68 million):
- Bryan earlier today wrote about the ways the Cubs could look to continue Taillon’s improvement.
- Would love to hear about this guy being an influence on the Cubs’ young pitchers:
- Taillon immediately felt the environment at Wrigley Field was special:
- I didn’t know that Taillon also had some Chicago connections:
- Taillon is a big Dansby Swanson fan, and underscores that the competitor in him wouldn’t sign with the Cubs if he didn’t think the path to win was there:
- Funny to think about Ian Happ (a huge coffee guy) knowing that Taillon was such a big coffee guy that he sent him a care package LAST year:
- And how about Taillon as a Cubs-fan-kid:
