I really love to see this, and it’s another reminder that the World Baseball Classic can be a whole lotta fun for different groups of people.
There is the country you might be pulling for. There are the MLB stars you might want to follow. There are the international stars you might get to see for the first time. And there are the prospects who get a chance to play some high-level international competition:
At just 20, Caissie would be awfully young to be on a WBC active roster, but he may nevertheless be among the best available options for Team Canada. After he struggled through a tough first month at High-A this past season, Caissie raked from May to September.
Caissie joins Matt Mervis (Team Israel), Miguel Amaya (Team Panama), and Javier Assad (Team Mexico) as Cubs prospects who might get a chance to play in the WBC.
Team Canada’s opening pool includes the United States, Mexico, Colombia, and Great Britain (they do baseball? that’s cool). The top two teams from the pool advance, so you might speculate that Canada will be competing with Mexico and Colombia for that non-U.S. spot.
