Carlos Beltran Finally Get a Job Inside Baseball Again, Joining the Mets Front Office
Famously the New York Mets manager for about a minute in the offseason a few years ago, Carlos Beltran is getting another shot on the inside of baseball.
The former Houston Astros outfielder, who was heavily implicated in the infamous sign-stealing scandal – which cost him that job with the Mets – now has a different job with the Mets:
Beltran’s role in the Mets’ front office are not yet being reported, but it’s his first chance back inside baseball since he was ousted, together with former Astros manager A.J. Hinch (who since returned with the Tigers), former Astros bench coach Alex Cora (who is back with the Red Sox), and former Astros GM Jeff Luhnow (who is now working in professional soccer). Beltran was previously an analyst for the Yankees and the YES Network.
Of note going forward, Beltran’s career had the look of a no-doubt Hall of Famer, but he received just 46.5% of the vote in his first time on the ballot this offseason. He was absolutely dinged by the sign-stealing case, and you wonder if more time within the game could help rehabilitate his image a bit.
