Although the Chicago Cubs weren’t able to make a reunion with beloved mustachioed reliever Andrew Chafin, that doesn’t mean Chafin didn’t play a part in their offseason.
New reliever Michael Fulmer, it turns out, talked to Chafin about his time with the Cubs. He got glowing reviews:
It’s not a surprise that Chafin (and Norris) had good things to say about the Cubs, who have done a very good job at helping pitchers like Chafin maximize their performance (and subsequent earnings).
The Cubs were courting Fulmer pretty early in the offseason, and actually gave him their thoughts and suggestions on what he should work on this offseason even if he didn’t wind up signing with the Cubs (Cubs.com). He really appreciated that.
Bonus tidbit from that Cubs.com piece: add Fulmer to the list of pitchers working on a sweeper. Even though one of Fulmer’s strengths is his very unique and hard gyro slider, it’d be something if he could also throw a sweeper.
