Cubs Injury Notes: Wisdom Scratched, Suzuki, Steele

Gotta love having enough guys dealing with physical issues on the third day of spring games to justify a round-up …

The latest is Patrick Wisdom, who has been scratched from today’s game with groin soreness:

Another day, another scratch for the Cubs.

In the split-squad game in Scottsdale, Patrick Wisdom was scratched with left groin soreness. Cubs not concerned, just being cautious this early in spring.

Jake Slaughter takes his place in the lineup.

It is absolutely true that you go overly cautious on this stuff early in spring training, so I’m not *worried* about Wisdom. It’s just that you don’t want to see this stuff at all.

We’re still waiting on word from Seiya Suzuki’s MRI on his oblique:

Cubs going over imaging taken on Seiya Suzuki (left oblique tightness) today. Ross still not willing to speculate on timetable/WBC until he goes over things with team’s medical staff and talks with Suzuki. Still in “wait and see” mode.

I am going to hope that the reason this is still fairly quiet is NOT because there is concern that it’s really serious, but instead is because it’s delicate at a human level to figure out how this impacts WBC. Please be right.

And lastly, at least the news on Justin Steele sounds promising:

Lefty Justin Steele (general arm fatigue) said this morning he is scheduled to throw a bullpen session on Tuesday. Thinks he’ll be fine to make his next start. Said he’s already built up to 2-3 innings.

If Steele is already stretched out to two or three innings, it really doesn’t matter at all that he missed his first spring start. He could miss another and it still wouldn’t be a big deal.
