Trey Mancini Rips His First Spring Homer with the Cubs

Chicago Cubs

It’ll be more thrilling when the regular season comes around, but I still enjoy seeing the “firsts” from the new Cubs.

For example, Trey Mancini’s first spring homer with the Cubs:

That thing was a bullet. Mancini definitely has power (his nickname is ‘Boom Boom’), and for as much as we talk about the Cubs’ need for lefty power, they actually don’t have a TON of righty power, either (especially for however long Seiya Suzuki is out).

Mancini, 30, another year removed from colon cancer, and perhaps getting some better bounces this year, could wind up a really important offensive performer for the Cubs this year. Maybe 2019 won’t be repeated, but his last two seasons strongly suggest a 110 to 115 wRC+ is entirely plausible. Maybe more. Cubs need that.
